The ABC of Engagement with KIFA

KIFA Advocates

KIFA Builders

Wanna do more? Once you’re familiar with KIFA’s work as a KIFA Advocate, consider becoming a local mobilizer in your city.

  • BUILD KIFA CONNECTIONS WITHIN YOUR CIRCLES - Working with KIFA’s Organizer, learn how to mobilize people in your immediate circle to get involved in KIFA’s work.

  • SHARE KIFA NEWS - Recruit folks to attend KIFA events in your city and around the state.

  • COMMIT TO 2 IN-PERSON MEETINGS PER YEAR - KIFA’s Organizer will meet with you to brainstorm ways to get more folks in your area engaged.

  • BECOME A SUSTAINING DONOR - Your recurring , on-going contribution strengthens KIFA’s reach, and just $10 or $20 a month goes a long way!

KIFA Champions

You’re invested in KIFA for the long-haul doing everything Advocates and Builders do, plus you:

  • PROVIDE TESTIMONY & OP-EDs - KIFA can count on you to speak on the issues as we fight for justice in Kansas.

  • BRING ISSUES BACK TO KIFA - As a Champion, you’re aware of what’s happening in your community and beyond, and you help us figure out where to direct our efforts.

  • SERVE IN LEADERSHIP ROLES - You share your gifts on a Working Group, on our Board of Directors, or another KIFA Leadership position.

KIFA One

Help us build a stronger KIFA with a movement of one: one gift, one meeting, one leader.

Putting your faith into action starts with one step.

Help us build a stronger KIFA with a movement of one: one gift, one meeting, one leader.
Putting your faith into action starts with one step.

For each faith community, we’ll start with one donation or financial commitment for the year; one dedicated KIFA liaison to attend Advocate meetings and help us stay connected; and one local KIFA visit. As you grow in your relationship with KIFA, we hope this will grow your local impact as well! You’ll become known in your community as a prophetic voice for justice, both gaining from and contributing to KIFA’s statewide visibility and vision of justice and dignity for all Kansans. Download a flyer with all the details and reach out to Rev. Mandy Todd with any questions.

KIFA’s work is driven by people who are committed to building justice and dignity for all Kansans. Because our work spans communities and issues across the state, we rely on people from every corner of Kansas to bring their lived experience, expertise, and leadership to the table. That collective power is what makes our work possible.

Our Working Groups are where this leadership comes to life. Co-led by a KIFA staff member and a dedicated volunteer leader, each Working Group focuses on a core area of our work to deepen strategy, share knowledge, and move us toward meaningful change. If you have a passion for justice or lived experience in one of these areas, we invite you to step into leadership by joining a Working Group. To get involved, email Sagi Rudnick.

Learn more about our Working Groups…

  • Led by Rev. Mandy and Pastor Charles McKinzie (Grace UMC, Winfield), this working group meets on the second Thursday of each month at 7:30pm.

Called by the divine to honor and proclaim the inherent dignity of every human, folks on this working group write op-eds, provide written and oral testimony on bills, offer book studies, attend lobby days, and create content. (Check out our Prayer for Trans Day of Remembrance.) Members of this working group are queer folks and allies who seek to affirm that no one is excluded from the love of God.

  • Led by Tatyana and Lynn Rogers (Wichita), this working group meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7pm.

Across our faith traditions, we are all called to care for every child. We recognize that public education is a cornerstone of that care, vital to developing educated, empathetic children who are connected to their neighborhoods. We advocate for our local schools, engage with school boards, connect faith spaces to support their local schools, and take it upon ourselves to learn more about how we can protect public education.

  • Led by Reb Moti and Rev. Jacob Poindexter (Wichita UCC, Wichita), this working group meets on the third Thursday of each month at 7pm.

  • Led by Sheri and Rev. Noni Strand (retired, Overland Park), this working group meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:30pm. Caring for creation is gratitude for the gifts of our generous God and a crucial part of justice and loving our neighbors. From farmer to factory worker, our neighbors’ struggles are exacerbated by climate change. This working group plans vigils for Earth Day, environmental justice related educational events, and works to keep KIFA advocates informed about legislative priorities as well as opportunities for learning and advocacy.

  • Led by Reb Moti and Rev. Jessica Williams (Kairos Center, Overland Park), this working group meets the third Monday of each month at 7pm.

Clergy Cohorts

Clergy have a vital role to play in KIFA’s work of faith-based justice advocacy. The influence of clergy members – their moral voice, properly engaged – is irreplaceable as a motivator to action on the part of their congregations, denominations, and communities. Clergy can be an important conduit between KIFA and the community, and of course clergy can be very influential when they speak with a united moral voice.

Engaging clergy in KIFA’s work is the role of the Clergy Council. It has three goals:

  • to encourage more clergy participation with actions and events at the Statehouse, and direct engagement with legislative representatives;

  • to encourage clergy in the building up of support for and engagement with KIFA’s work among the members of their congregations and communities; and

  • KIFA will support clergy as they grow and develop in their own sense of advocacy and justice work, along with the ability to reflect theologically on this work; with particular attention to the challenge of leadership in settings (congregations) that are not universally friendly or receptive to this work.

Monthly Clergy Calls

Join our monthly Clergy Call on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 11 AM Central time. The invitation to register comes out via email at the beginning of each month. Contact Mandy, Director of Engagement & Development, for more information.

Our goal is to build a community of justice-minded clergy as well as to keep you and your community informed on how we — all of us, together — are “putting faith into action.”
