We are greatly heartened by the activism of the young survivors of the Parkland massacre and the energizing effect it is having on "gunsense" efforts throughout the country -- although of course angered and saddened by the fact that it takes endless numbers of these (preventable!) tragedies to get the needle moving on this issue at all.
On this coming Saturday, March 24, many "March for Our Lives" events will be held throughout the country, including a big one in Washington, DC, and several here in Kansas. We want to make sure you're aware of these.
Topeka: 11AM at the State Capitol Building (our board chair Rev. Sarah will be attending this one)
Lawrence: 10AM at the South Park Gazebo
KCMO: 12 noon at Theis Park, 533 Emanuel Cleaver Blvd (our director, Reb Moti, will be attending this one)
Manhattan: 2 pm at CiCo Park
Wichita: 10 AM, gathering at Park Elementary, 1025 North Main, rallying at the Old Sedgwick County Historical Courthouse, 504 North Main
Salina: 12 pm, gathering at 100 E Claflin Ave, in front of the Kansas Wesleyan main building, marching to the Robert Caldwell Plaza next to the Public Library
Pittsburg: 1 pm, starting in front of PCMS and ending at the Prichett Pavillion
All of these have Facebook event pages that can be found via search. The main event page for national effort is https://marchforourlives.com/
We suggest that clergy go in vestments and that signage reflect your faith commitment to the protection of our lives and our children's lives.
Blessings on these young people, and on all of our efforts. If there's anything that could be considered "God's work," it's this.
